"The role of the artist is exactly the same as the role of the lover. If I love you, I have to make you conscious of the things you don't see.”
– James Baldwin

We are here. We are bold. We are resilient.Humanities 4 Humanity (H4H) is a zine collection dedicated to amplifying the voices of those who are often marginalized, tokenized, and erased. We are committed to creating a platform that honors the complexities of our identities and the multiplicity of individual experiences. This is a collection of mixed media from the Queer, Latina/Latino/Latinx, and Filipina/Filipino/Filipinx communities, as well as the oral histories of Black students at Rutgers University. We believe in:Authenticity Over Perfection
We reject the sanitized and polished narratives that fit neatly into mainstream boxes. We value the unfiltered and unedited truths that reflect our joys, struggles, and everything in between.
Community Over Competition
This zine is a collaborative effort with space for all. We uplift each other because we know that our liberation is tied together. We reject the scarcity mindset and instead embrace abundance, celebrating the unique contributions of every voice.
Decolonizing Our Stories
We refuse to let our stories be co-opted or diluted. Our voices are powerful acts of resistance against colonialism, white supremacy, cisnormativity, and heteronormativity. We aim to dismantle harmful narratives and reclaim our cultural legacies, one page at a time.
Joy as Resistance
We celebrate joy as a revolutionary act. In a world that often tries to erase our joy, we make room for it unapologetically. From love poems to art that makes us laugh, our expressions of happiness, hope, and community are powerful forms of defiance.
Intersectionality as a Guiding Principle
Our zine recognizes that our identities are multi-faceted and interconnected. We create space for the voices of those at the margins of the margins, especially those who are Queer, Trans, Disabled, Neurodivergent, Fat, and all combinations thereof.
Accessibility and Inclusion
We are committed to making our zine accessible to all, prioritizing voices historically excluded from mainstream publishing. Whether through print, digital formats, or audio, we aim to reach our community where they are.
To all creators: share your art, your truth, our joy. This zine is a collective testament to our resilience and a call to build the world we envision. Cheers to the reclamation of ourselves. In solidarity,
Humanities 4 Humanity (H4H)
